Move On Philippines'
2006 Projects:

Teacher In Charge Nhor Laguia of the
Datu Ambel High School happily accepts the books
as they were turned over by Move On/MinLand,
Municipal Government and DepEd representatives. |
Central Kabacan District, Matalam and
Carmen Beneficiaries
Beneficiaries in Central Kabacan District,
Matalam and Carmen in the ARMM received books on January 17 and 26,
2006 respectively.
Excerpts from EJ Matela's report:
"Attached is the report for the turnover of educational
materials to Matalam, Cotabato beneficiaries. The expression of gratitude
and the general response of the beneficiaries are I would say overwhelming
and by telling you these, you should know that your hard work and enthusiasm
in this endeavor has made people smile and has given them hopes that
people still care for their future - despite not knowing or meeting
them. Surely, the lives you have touched admire your selflessnes and
would someday pay it forward.
We have also finished turning over the educational materials intended
for Kabacan & Carmen (North Cotabato) and Pagalungan (Maguindanao)
beneficiaries last 26 January. It was hosted by the Kabacan LGU and
similarly, the expression of gratitude and well wishes for Move On Phils
was immensely flattering. It was also the inauguration of the municipal
library where the turnover of books donated by Move On Phils was the
highlight of the day. No less than the Mayor and Vice Mayor graced the
activity and to showcase that they indeed are good hosts, Mayor Luz
Tan even led the municipality's dance troupe in rendering two exciting
dance numbers (indigenous mindanao dances, whew!) which they prepared
for the day's activity. Maybe we can support the municipal library too
- we have asked them to fill up request forms."

The
dividing line between rich and poor in the Philippines today is education.
When Filipino children live in poverty, literacy becomes a critical link
in a chain that can either tie children to a life of poverty or be used
to pull them out of it.
For children living in poverty, every day is filled with challenges and
missed opportunities. Move on Philippines believes that education is the
best road to a better life for most of these children. With a strong educational
foundation, children in even the most impoverished and remote communities
have a chance at college, a career, and a ticket out of poverty.

Poor
rural communities in the Philippines are often deprived of a quality education.
Lack of school facilities
and equipment, dilapidated classrooms, poorly prepared teachers, lack
of textbooks and good educational resources or references are negative
factors that hinder children from excelling and overcoming the challenges
of learning and going to school.
